With the holiday season right around the corner, the hunt for those perfect gifts is officially on! While many might be tempted to hit up the big-box stores or scroll through online retail giants for fast shipping & deals, there’s a growing crucial need to support small businesses this year.
Shopping local isn’t just a trend—it’s a way to make a real difference in our communities, and your gift-giving game. Sure, Amazon is tempting we all know that, but choosing to shop small offers a one-of-a-kind experience that goes beyond what’s in your cart. While I could give you a plethora of reasons why you SHOULD be shopping local, I’ve decide not to bore you with those details (since I’ve already written this article twice and made it tooooo long noting the facts that its small businesses that make our community so special by engaging with neighbors, employing families & bringing in local funds…. Etc.,) I’ve decided that you deserve pure entertainment for this piece. So in the spirit of festive fun- myself along with my colleagues at Le Shag, have put together a list of fantastic spots that are nestled amongst places to shop, stop to warm your gullet and support the community that we love and appreciate so much! Plus, the Le Shag Staff will be making shopping rounds at all of these spots and will be recording live most of the time! Schneider’s Wall Street
This is a Kingston classic. It used to be that you went into Schneiders where you had an account and you’d walk around the store loading up the clerk with all of your gorgeous collectible gifts. At the end of your visit you would sign off on your account and carry all of your gorgeously wrapped gifts out the door. While some things aren’t exactly the same here, the feeling and people always are. Don’t forget to check out the estate case for some amazing treasures!
Herzogs*** Kingston Plaza
It’s a Kingston classic! Herzogs is a childhood favorite of mine where you can find everything from plants and bird feeders to ornaments and power tools. They also offer free gift wrapping that’s next-level. Don’t miss this quintessential holiday stop! Not just that, this spot has employed many of my highschool friends, my kids friends and more. Owned by a local family and supportive to much of what you seem around Kingston now- this store is a staple to our hometown.
